Numeracy is central to the curriculum of all pupils. It is an important life skill and helps pupils to make sense of the world. At Springfield, we endeavour to equip children with the confidence and competence to use numeracy and think mathematically in everyday life. Our aim is to promote a healthy and enthusiastic, long lasting attitude towards numeracy.

Numeracy lessons at Springfield are fun and engaging, encouraging children to become independent as well as collaborative learners through practical activity, exploration and discussion.

The National curriculum for numeracy is applicable across the school and is organised into four areas:

Ma1-Using and Applying

Ma3- Shape, Space and Measures

Ma4-Handling data.

The using and applying strand is integral to all other areas of numeracy, and the children are provided with opportunities to creatively solve problems or investigate patterns and relationships, using and applying the skills they have acquired.
